Our approach is collaborative rather than competitive, and focused on strengthening private custodianship as a proven conservation model.
Rhino Connect operates as a collaborative wildlife protection network supporting rhino conservation in South Africa. Rather than managing a single reserve, we connect private rhino custodians, veterinarians, anti-poaching initiatives, sanctuaries and researchers so that support can move quickly to where it is most needed.
By coordinating anti-poaching initiatives, emergency response, veterinary support and rhino sanctuary support across multiple partners, we strengthen conservation efforts beyond one location. This network model improves resilience, reduces duplication and supports long-term wildlife conservation sustainability.
Private rhino custodians protect a significant and growing share of South Africa’s rhino population (> 10 000). Over the past decade, rhino numbers under private protection have increased while poaching pressure has remained highest in many larger public systems. Private custodians manage land directly, respond rapidly to threats and invest heavily in security, veterinary care and monitoring. Their ability to act quickly and collaborate closely has proven critical to rhino survival.
Rhino Connect strengthens this model by coordinating anti-poaching initiatives, veterinary conservation programs and emergency response support across custodians. Supporting private custodians helps ensure long-term wildlife conservation sustainability.
Our rhino sanctuary is located in Limpopo, South Africa. For security and animal-welfare reasons, it is not open to the public for tourism or general visits. Access is limited to operational staff, veterinary teams and specific program participants where appropriate. This helps protect the animals, staff and custodians we support across the wider rhino conservation network.
We welcome support from individuals, foundations and companies worldwide who wish to support rhino conservation in South Africa. International donors can contribute through online donations, project sponsorship, corporate partnerships or grant funding.
If you are considering a larger contribution or structured conservation partnership, we are happy to discuss options directly.
The sanctuary is not open for tourism or general visits. However, structured access may be possible for program participants, partners or major donors where appropriate and safe to do so. All visits are arranged in advance and subject to operational and security considerations.
From 2026 onward, Rhino Connect has implemented structured daily documentation across its operations and conservation partnerships. This allows us to track veterinary procedures, emergency responses, orphan care support, anti-poaching initiatives and assistance provided to private rhino custodians.
We aim to publish a consolidated impact report on a quarterly basis, providing partners and supporters with a clear overview of conservation activities and outcomes across the network.
Because Rhino Connect operates across multiple custodians and regions, impact is measured through the combined results of the network rather than through a single site.
Rhino Connect is building long-term sustainability through a combination of mission-aligned revenue-generating activities and strategic support.
Educational initiatives — including international veterinary student programs and training placements — generate income that helps support operations and veterinary care across the network. These programs are designed to expand over time, strengthening core activities while increasing conservation capacity.
Additional initiatives such as the Rhino Milk Run, structured fundraising events and partnership activities generate support while also providing value to participants and partners. As these initiatives grow, they contribute to operational stability and help strengthen the broader conservation network.
Philanthropic support and partnerships remain important in enabling emergency response, expansion and capacity building across the private rhino custodian network, ensuring that critical conservation work can continue to grow where it is most needed.
Rhino Connect operates with lean overhead and a strong focus on directing resources toward frontline rhino conservation in South Africa, including veterinary support, anti-poaching initiatives and rhino sanctuary care.
